The thing is if you don’t understand why certain things look great on you, it can be hard to find new favorites. In reality, it’s very simple and it shows up in all body shapes.

Once you learn how to dress for your body type, it’s amazing to create any outfit you love. Keep reading to discover what your body type is and find the best clothes for your body type.

Additionally, determine what type of body shape you have. Pay attention to your curves. See how they connect your chest, waist and hips. Besides, the body types below describe female bodies, not girls who have not passed puberty. Although it is sometimes possible to determine body type before maturity, it will become apparent only after a bust, hips, etc. have grown.

However, you have to measure your bust, waist and hip measurements. Depending on the size of each section (in inches), you can determine your body shape to find clothing that fits properly. Explore on – how to look slimmer.

Therefore, there is no “best” or “worst” body type. A certain type may be fashionable in your particular locale at the moment, but that doesn’t mean your body type is “bad”. All body types have advantages and disadvantages. Knowing your body type is all about dressing to look your best. Thus, these categories include even model bodies.

The 4 Physical measurements

What is your body type? The surest way to figure this out is to take four body measurements: shoulders, bust, waist and hips. The relationship between these figures will show you how your frame is shaped. So grab your measuring tape, get down to your squivvies and let’s get started.

  • Shoulder

Loosely wrap the tape around the very top of your shoulders, at their widest point above your shoulder blades. It’s easy to slip the tape in this place, so fair warning; a second set of hands can come in handy.

  •  Chest

Wrap the tape around your entire chest. Hold it tight enough that it stays in place, but not so tight that it compresses your chest. It’s fine if you measure the bra, especially if you usually wear one.

  • Waist

This can be a little confusing, because your natural waist is different from where the waistband of your pants usually hits. Actually, you’re looking for the area of your waist that is the narrowest, which is typically above the belly button.

  • Hips

As with your shoulders and chest, you’re looking for the full point. You’ll want to wrap the tape around your hips and buttocks, under your hip bones. Also, if you measure on underwear, that’s fine too. However, take some tips to make life easier.

What is my body shape?

Now that you know your measurements you can figure out your body type. Although there are many different body shapes, most women align with one of five: apple, pear, hourglass, inverted triangle or rectangle.

You may learn how to dress for your body type by being aware of this. Discover your shape below, and then explore with a ton of styling suggestions, outfit ideas, and tips. And if you’re tall or short? We’ve got you covered too, so don’t worry.

  • Apple shaped body

If you’re curvy with a less defined waist, you’re probably an apple shape (also known as a circle or round body type).

  • Pear shaped body

If your hips are wider than your shoulders, you probably have a pear shape (also known as a triangle body type).

  • Hourglass body

If your shoulders and hips are fairly balanced and you have a defined waist, you’re probably hourglass shaped.

  • Inverted triangle body shape

If your shoulders are wider than your hips, you’re probably an inverted triangle.

  • Rectangular body shape

If all four of your measurements are roughly the same and your build is straight, you’re probably a rectangle.

  • Petite body

Regardless of body shape (petites come in all shapes and sizes) we have some universal styling tips if you’re 5’3” or under.

  • Tall body type

Finding clothes that fit your tall frame well doesn’t have to be an uphill battle.
